At CAK, he transformed a team with only four wins in his first year into this season’s Tennessee State Finals contenders, securing 26 victories. This season, he developed 2 All-State players, 3 All-Region players, and 6 All-District players, highlighting his exceptional coaching talent. Academically, Charles holds a B.A. from the University of Memphis as Salutatorian and Summa Cum Laude, along with a Doctor of Jurisprudence (JD) from the University of Tennessee College of Law. The DBCU Way

Coach Matthews

My philosophy:  Put pressure on the other team not our team.  Play a fast pace aggressive style on the basepath while playing smart structured defense behind strong pitching.

Program Overview:  The DBCU softball program will emphasize God, Family, Faith and Fun.  On the field we will push for extra bases and play an attacking style of softball to put pressure on the opposing team.  Further, we will look to minimize pressure on our athletes by stressing preparation and positive reinforcement over negative.  We will keep Christ first.  We will play for one another.  We will have fun.

...

Our mission i..Our Mission is to build a team that is knowledgeable, tough minded, exciting to watch, and fun to be a part of.  We want to build it as a family that can share each other's burdens on the field and in life having the ability to overcome and excel.

Program objectives: Increase game understanding and knowledge with efficient and structured practices and situational in game learning.  Foster a love for the game by building players knowledge and confidence through preparation and a desire to succeed rather than defeating players through fear of failure.   Teach players the importance of teamwork and how to function as a cohesive unit rather than an individual.

Program Structure:  Experienced Coaching staff with a a very successful track record of success that will teach, develop, and care for the student athletes on and off the field to help them become better players and better members of the community.  We will run structured practices designed to prepare the players for game situations.  We will do specialized training to help ready the players to perform.  We will play a competitive schedule.  And we will do team building activities to foster a sense of Family and Fun.  We will do all these things while keeping Christ first and learning how to pray for one another and play for one another.  Furthermore, we will provide academic guidance in helping our students athletes accomplish their goals beyond the field as they transition into their careers.

Expectations:

Players are expected to show effort, have a willingness to listen and to learn, and to be coachable.   Players are expected to be respectful of their teammates, coaches, officials and competitors and to represent the DBCU family with class and integrity.
