Daytona Beach Christian University Welcomes Head Football Coach Roland Bell

12/04/2026

Daytona Beach Christian University is thrilled to announce the hiring of Coach Roland Bell as the new Head Football Coach, bringing decades of coaching experience, proven leadership, and a deep passion for developing student-athletes on and off the field.

Coach Bell’s journey is marked by service, perseverance, and competitive success. He served proudly in the Alabama Army National Guard as a helicopter mechanic while attending Troy State University, where he earned a degree in Physical Education. He later continued his academic growth, completing a Biology degree at Auburn University and a master’s in Sports & Fitness Management from Troy University–Ft. Benning.

Over the past 25+ years, Coach Bell has taught physical education and biology in Alabama public schools, while coaching multiple sports and serving as an athletic director. In 2018, he joined Southern Preparatory Academy as Head Football Coach and later became Athletics Director. His leadership helped elevate the program—earning national titles, expanding student-athlete development, and opening scholarship opportunities for players pursuing higher levels of competition.

Coach Bell believes in high-expectation coaching grounded in strong values, team discipline, and Christ-centered mentorship. His mission is to build a championship-caliber program while guiding young men to become leaders in faith, family, and life.

“Coach Bell brings more than wins to DBCU—he brings a commitment to excellence, integrity, and spiritual growth,” said DBCU Athletic Director Andros Desir. “Our student-athletes will benefit tremendously from his vision, his experience, and his heart for developing confident, capable men of God. We are honored to welcome him to Daytona Beach.”

Coach Bell is excited to lead the Seraphim onto the field and begin shaping the future of DBCU Football. Together, we look forward to building a program rooted in purpose, determination, and faith.

Please join us in giving Coach Bell a warm Seraphim welcome to Daytona Beach Christian University!

Meet the DBCU
Football Coaching Staff

The Daytona Beach Christian University football program is led by a growing team of dedicated coaches committed to building a Christ-centered, competitive, and character-driven program. Each member of our coaching staff brings unique experience, strong leadership, and a passion for developing student-athletes on and off the field. As the program continues to expand, our coaches are laying the foundation for excellence—focusing on discipline, teamwork, academic success, and spiritual growth. We are proud to introduce the leaders shaping the future of Seraphim Football.

The DBCU Way

DBCU football philosophy:
As a Christian university football team, our mission is to glorify God through the game of football by developing men of faith, character, and excellence. We believe winning begins with integrity, discipline, and servant leadership, modeled after Christ. Our team is a brotherhood where accountability, respect, and love for one another drives success. We pursue excellence in academics, athletics, and spiritual growth, preparing players for life beyond the field. Football is our platform to witness, serve, and impact the world. Victory is measured not only in scores, but in transformed lives committed to Christ’s calling.

Program Overview:
Our football program develops men of faith, character, and excellence, glorifying God through competition, academics, service, and brotherhood while preparing leaders for life beyond the field.

Our Mission:
As a Daytona Beach Christian University Seraphim, our mission is to inspire and develop young athletes through the sport of football. We aim to build champions on the field and in life, emphasizing faith, integrity, and community. We believe that through hard work and dedication, we can achieve excellence both as players and individuals.

Program objectives:
Faith as the Foundation: Every practice, game, and interaction is rooted in glorifying God through effort, discipline, and integrity. We use biblical principles (e.g., Colossians 3:23 – “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord”) to inspire players. We begin and end team activities with meaningful prayer, fostering unity and dependence on God.

Character Before Competition:

Winning matters, but character lasts. Players are taught to compete with honesty, humility, and respect. Coaches and captains lead by serving others, modeling Christ’s example of humility. We encourage players to hold each other to high standards both on and off the field.

Excellence in Athletics:

Strive for excellence in preparation, execution, and perseverance. Practices emphasize fundamentals, teamwork, physical and mental toughness. Mistakes are opportunities for learning, not condemnation. Athletes are encouraged to get a little better every day.

Holistic Development:

We will provide opportunities for Bible study, mentorship, and discipleship while supporting players in excelling in the classroom, recognizing education as part of their calling. We will teach responsibility, time management, and resilience to prepare athletes for life beyond football.

Team as Family:

The team is a spiritual family, united by shared faith and mission. Every player is valued, regardless of role or background. We encourage service projects and outreach, showing Christ’s love through action.

Mission Beyond the Field:

Athletes are encouraged to use football as a platform to share the gospel and demonstrate Christian values. Success is measured not only in wins but in the lives transformed by Christ. We equip players to be godly men, leaders, and servants in their future families, churches, and communities.

Program Structure:
We practice fast and furious, always in attack mode, so that games are easy! Although we do not run gassers or sprints after practice, getting tired or cramping during games is unacceptable. Our coaches learn to coach with precision and attention to detail at breakneck speeds. We play games at a variety of speeds depending on the situation, but always as the aggressor in all areas of the game. Practice doesn’t make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect!

Expectations:
We expect our players to follow Colossians 3:23 and do everything in their lives to the best of their abilities and with their whole heart, as if they were doing it for the Lord. We expect players to show respect and compassion, not just to each other and the coaches, but to everyone. We expect players to give positive encouragement to each other in all situations. Therefore, we expect players to expect the same behavior from their coaches. We are Godly mentors of Godly men.
